We are excited to announce the release of Firmware 4.2 for all JCTY TX-series and MX-series aircraft. This update introduces our most advanced return-to-home system to date, along with several safety enhancements requested by our enterprise customers.
Smart Return-to-Home (Smart RTH)
The centerpiece of Firmware 4.2 is our new Smart RTH system, which uses real-time environmental mapping to calculate the safest return path rather than simply retracing the outbound route. When a return-to-home event is triggeredβwhether by low battery, signal loss, or pilot commandβthe aircraft evaluates all known obstacles and terrain data to find the most efficient and safest route back to the launch point.
In field testing, Smart RTH reduced average return time by 23% compared to the previous straight-line approach, while completely eliminating obstacle-related RTH failures. The system accounts for wind direction and speed when calculating return trajectories, ensuring sufficient battery reserve for safe landing.
Enhanced Obstacle Avoidance
The obstacle avoidance system now features improved performance in low-light conditions and better detection of thin obstacles such as power lines and guy wires. Our computer vision team retrained the detection models using over 50,000 real-world flight images collected from power inspection operations, resulting in a 40% improvement in wire detection accuracy.
Additional Updates
Firmware 4.2 also includes improved GPS positioning accuracy in urban canyon environments, reduced startup time from power-on to flight-ready, and enhanced compatibility with third-party ground control station software. Enterprise fleet managers will appreciate the new remote firmware update capability, allowing over-the-air updates across entire fleets from the cloud management console.
How to Update
Firmware 4.2 is available now through the JCTY Pilot app and the Download Center on our website. We recommend all operators update at their earliest convenience. For fleet customers, contact your account manager to schedule a coordinated fleet update.
